    Oh cool.

    And, it’s quite easy.

It’s the ATTITUDE. You, my dear, ARE young. But I, at 36, am (still young but) definitely growing older. However, I don’t think of myself in terms of age. But rather, I think in terms of what I can do, what this body can do (a lot. I exercise daily and lift weights), what this mind is capable of (again, a lot. I write and read and interact and think every single day).

    So that’s my secret.

Webster’s dictionary gives several definitions for the word ‘young’. The first of course being ‘the first stages of life, growth, and early development’. That said, no one is capable of remaining young in this sense of the word.

Secondly, it is defined as ‘having little experience’. If being young means having no fun - no trips to the ballpark, no vacations, no touch football games, no parties with friends - then who wants to be truly young?

We’re also offered a definition of ‘having recently come into being’. If we’re all about STAYING young, this truly does not apply.

Finally, Webster’s tells us that young is ‘of, relating to, or having the characteristics of youth or a young person’. This is how I like to think of young. Sure I have my memories and experiences of growing up, but so long as I FEEL young, I am, right? There’s never a number or restriction placed on being young! I feel young, I act young, I am young! Live life - early or old - youth is self-imposed.

  3. 3 Justus04 May 2008

That’s an easy enough question! It’s my friends that keep me young! I am young, regardless of whether or not I want to be, but it’s the relationships that I carry on that make me feel it. That and refusing to be responsible all the time!

i am young, but i’m all about staying in this place for as long as i can! what keeps me young is knowing that there will be times in life to settle down, to be responsible, to push away that beer that’s just ONE too many (and right now? so not that time). being young is about living on the edge, acting on impulses and taking chances while you still can. when is that supposed to end? i still can’t tell you. i just know that right now, if i keep that in the front of my mind, and remind myself that i’ll be older and wishing for these days back in the blink of an eye, i won’t take RIGHT NOW for granted.

this is a great contest and i can’t wait to see who wins! amazing!

first of all, this is an amazing contest. wow! i’m actually really impressed with Lipton - brands that engage this way online are incredibly in tune with our generation.

that being said, what does keep me young? i do feel very young, and at 28 as a self-proprietor and raising a crazy puppy, sometimes it feels like responsibility presents itself around every corner.

    blogging keeps me young.
blogging forces me to look at my day and my life with a bit of humility, and a dose of humor. stepping away from your experiences and engaging in a public discussion of them is not only invigorating, but a therapy of sorts.

    running keeps me young.
working out, especially long distance running, makes me feel like i’m still in great physical condition, which goes a long, long way to feeling young and able and energetic. when i get too busy to work out for even a few days, i start to feel like i’m losing control, stressing too much, and slowing down. just one run can turn it all around.

my mind, and my body…anchored to their youth!

Well, I don’t necessarily think I am old (i’ll be 21 soon), but my husband generally keeps me pretty young. He’s wise beyond his years intellectually, but has a very young & carefree spirit. Nothing keeps him away from anything; not fear, not insecurity. I can distinctly remember what it felt like to be that free; I think I was about 10 then & how I wish I could have that thought process 24/7.

Whatever me & my husband are engaged in together — whether it be a game of scrabble, going to the grocery store, or sitting on the couch conversing with each other — he somehow manages to make it fun & less serious. He inspires me to not grow up so fast. :]

Pretty bike, by the way. ;]

Staying young is a lifestyle choice. It’s a way of the heart. Life is an adventure to discover rather than a sequence of years to move through. The course you take on life’s path reflects the age of your heart. Do you see life as happening to you? Are you waiting to retire so you can sit in your Lazyboy and watch TV? Or are you in for the adventure? The mystery? If you choose the second, I dare say you will stay young.

I choose to look at life as an adventure or journey through a field speckled with wild strawberries. You might not even know they are there if you aren’t looking. But if you’ll just stop long enough to notice them, pick one and taste its sweetness, you find hidden treasures in life. There are wild strawberries everywhere; the beauty of nature, the smell of baking bread, the laughter of a child, the company of a dear friend, the embrace of a lover. Life is blanketed with strawberries ripe for the picking. They’re yours to enjoy if you choose to pluck one off its stem. And what’s another thing that is so wonderful about wild strawberries in life? They are meant to be shared.

That’s how this 48 year old mama stays young. She is living full out in a field of wild strawberries!

  8. 8 The Ex04 May 2008

Wow, props to Lipton for engaging bloggers this way. Web 2.0 FTW, right?

What keeps me young? Well, laughter. I’m still in my early twenties but sometimes I start to think…ehh…maybe it’s all downhill from here. But then I call up the girls and spend a night laughing my butt off (and drinking martinis!). Everything seems so much easier if I can just remember the humor in life.

I’m so glad I found this site. Cheers!

    Cool contest.

What keeps me young? I teach 8th and 9th grade girls at a high school in New Orleans. Being around 13 and 14 year old girls gives me energy and keeps me involved in the “hot” things in life. At first it made me feel old because I was so different from these girls, but in the common ground we established, I realize that I am still a little bit cool, and definitely young. They appreciate me more as a teacher because I go down to their level and try to understand situations from the perspective of a 14 year old.

But I think that even more than that, my life experiences have tested my will and my inner strength and it has been because of a conscious effort on my part that I have stayed “young.” I’m turning 25 next month and because I’ve decided to take better care of my body I realize that I will live a long life and 25 is only the beginning. My perspective allows me to feel young and it reminds me to enjoy every single day because you’ll never have another one like it.

Stupid jokes. Hanging out with my buddies making stupid jokes keeps me young. Often I get all caught up in school and work and I forget about fun. I’ve been lucky to find some pretty witty friends, so when I can get together with them and forget about the STUFF I have to do, it reminds me what it is about to be young at heart and enjoying life.

I’m with Vered (again! :)), I’m 36 and I’m young because I still see myself as young and I do things to make sure I FEEL young. After kids and in your thirties, the body does start to kick into aging gear, but you can definitely slow this up by getting regular exercise, eating nourishing food and keeping yourself inspired and excited about life.

I’m lousy at the eating better part, but I have fallen in love with working out and that makes me feel much more ALIVE than I did in my drugged out 20s. I also think you need to hang out with people who knew you when you were young and who make you laugh, while avoiding people who live by too many rules and only have negative things to say.

Nights out with the girls, playing soccer with my son, backpacking with a handful of clothes and a toothbrush, new adventures, new challenges and always feeding my brain with new information: that’s what makes me feel like I will be young forever. Life really is short, you have to suck every bit of juice out of it you can!

  18. 18 Kevin05 May 2008

    Fantastic contest!

Now, to answer your question, hmm.

What keeps me young? Well, I am a dreamer, you could say. I like to believe in the “what if’s” instead of what already is. I use this creativity to write stories and books for other people’s entertainment.

I also “dance a jig” in the reflection of the sliding glass door, you know, just in case I have to impress the ladies someday on the dance floor. (I’ve been known to do this at weddings when I’ve had a wee bit too much to drink…)

Another thing I do is create impromptu plays in my head and act out all of the characters, usually having to do with a parrot and a pirate, while I shower. Some people sing in the shower, I do this.

I am energetic so people will often see me kicking and jumping and screaming like I am in a Bruce Lee flick. Sometimes I hit things when doing this. The last thing I hit was a towel rack with my foot and it flew off the wall. I quickly tried to fix it by shoving it back onto the wall and forcing the screws in, but unfortunately, a few hours later it fell off again, revealing my attempt at a cover-up.

Yep, just like a kid at heart. Maybe a little too much. :)
Now, if I somehow win this fabulous contest, I also want an “In My Heels” t-shirt if you can supply one. I’ll take a picture of myself with the bike wearing the shirt and I’ll send it to you !!! Yeah ! :D

Anyway, thanks for the chance to win this great bike !!!!

Keep up the work on your site as well, it’s great, as always !

I absolutely love getting together with my friends and we all cook together and then spend the rest of the night playing silly boardgames. 23. 23 Sheenah05 May 2008

My activities keep me young. Technically I am still young. I’m 23. It is just that a lot of things in my life, when added together, can make me feel old. I am married (very adult), about to finish college and start a real job (scary), and all my friends are in professional fields. I tis very easy to slip into the whole “I’m getting old, I have to be an adult” mindset, but I fight it. I make sure to do fun things with friends, to go on dates with my husband and to play with my dogs. I remind myself that, hey, I am young. Whether having a girls night, going out with my husband or doing something just for me, like spending hours in a bookstore, by doing things that make me happy, I stay young.

    This is a brilliant idea!

I’m an oldie at 45 compared to most of the people round here, but I still think I’m in my 30’s most of the time and to the chagrin of some people round me, I positively, absolutely refuse to grow up!

    I stay young by:

    Remaining open-minded at all times
    Laughing a lot
    Going to the gym
Holding hands with my wife at the Mall
Drinking an occasional beer or two
    Playing with my dog
    Meditating
    Riding roller coasters
    Cod liver oil
Refusing to be bound by tradition. Yes I will hang out in Abercrombie & Fitch and Hollister too!
Listening to what younger people have to say
Listening to what older people have to say
    Riding my mountain bike
    Hugs
    Being playful
    Adopting a permanently curious outlook
    Laughing a lot more
    Drinking green drinks, yummy…not
Looking for the good in that that looks bad
    Drinking lots of water
    Napping
Chilling by the pool for no good reason
Living in alignment with my values
    Going easy on myself
    Going easy on others
    More laughing
Doing a job I’d do for free if I didn’t need the money
Blogging to a younger audience than me

Running keeps me feeling young. The wind in my face, the silence of the place around me, nothing but my thoughts to keep me company (and sometimes I can even out run those too.) It’s about being free, not caring what I look like, did I succeed or fail at todays challenges, but just enjoying what is right now. Being young was about enjoying the here and now for me and that’s what running does for me…keeps me young!

    Hi JEMi

What a great idea and a fabulous prize.

    I thought 30 was old
    Till I hit 29
    Then the bar was raised
And I lost track of time

    The years all went by
    I didn’t give them a thought
    The birthdays were many
    More years I had bought

    Count your blessing more often
    Teach others what you learn
    Have fun in the process
    And enjoy each new turn

As I look back in time
    The years have been kind
    I thought 80 was old
But it’s all in your mind

ooh I want the bike so much! I need a new one!

I think I “stay young” two ways. First by continually challenging myself both physically and mentally (continuing university, picking up the sport of triathlon). By challenging myself I never stop growing… and I think the official end of youth is the official end of growth.

Secondly, I don’t take anything too seriously. You’ll see me playing volleyball at the beach before you’ll see me in a stilted business suit. I’ll get laugh lines before I get frown lines. (And laugh lines are way prettier) I’d rather eat ice cream for dinner than bean sprout salad. I’ll go with my friends to laser quest and make friends with the fourteen year olds who are there for a birthday party.

So, I guess I stay young by striving to just live life!

    Yay, what a wonderful giveaway!

The answer to your question is: What keeps me young is playing with kids. Whenever my nephews and nieces are visiting, I feel like a kid all over again. I teach them all sorts of games I used to play during my childhood. I teach them trick to wow their friends at school with. I teach them a lot of stuff, and they keep having their eyes wide open with surprise and amazement. They say I am the coolest aunt evah! I should be if they’re saying it. I stay young by playing with my 3 kids (13, 11, 9). They are very active and love all kinds of sports, so we’re always playing football, soccer, basketball, or baseball in the backyard. The things that keep people young…

    Technology.

I think Technology is a big part of today’s life and it is always being updated in some way. I believe when someone in their Mid 40s has something like an iPhone or a sexy convertable BMW with blasting Hip Hop music… They feel young… (or youngER)…

If you want to be FRANK about it…. Of course eating right and smelling good and being in love and owning your own house and throwing parties always makes people feel young….

But looking at it in a not so general sense.. I think Technology steals the cake… (Organic cake that is)…. =)

My kids definitely keep me young. On the other hand, they also give me gray hairs, so I guess it all evens out in the end. ;) Thanks for the great contest!

What keeps me young? My bike ride to work - however my bike is not young!

I guess to free my Y I get on all floors and wrestle with my dog. Complete with “dog noises”. I’m not going to lie, it’s a darn good time. And then I make out with 20 year olds. Shady.

Realizing all that I haven’t yet experienced keeps me young. All the places I haven’t visited even though I travel often, all the activities (skydiving, horseback riding, etc) I haven’t done even though I feel like I’ve done a lot… I love having those to look forward to and knowing I’ve got PLENTY of time to do them.

ps - I also am a big bike rider! ;)

This is a cool contest, considering I don’t have a bike. ;) Here is my answer:

I eat only fresh organic fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds. I drink a green smoothie every morning, I swim 25 laps or more every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and run on the in between days. I spend time in my garden picking out weeds and planting new seeds (you would be surprised how much that works the glutes). I spend some time in the sunshine every day, and take walks.

But more importantly I chose to be joyful. I am filled with joy from within, and I don’t allow circumstances from the outside to bring me down. I experience emotions just like everyone else if something is sad or whatnot, but I remember that I am always care for by our beautiful Universe. Finally, I laugh every day. Laughter is the cure for everything! Smile, laugh, eat well, stay connected to your power and you will stay young forever!

    Lots of love to everyone!

What keeps me young? Not taking life Too Seriously. First you start to worry, then you start to frown, then you /feel/ old regardless of your chronological age. If I ever get to the point where I have to walk with a cane, then I’m going to buy a top hat and tails so I can imitate Fred Astaire :)

Not to reply to any specific comment Just want to say am impressed InMyHeels and cool names
What keeps me young are the good old basics work effectively feel constructive in my work and sleep with a clear conscience
Socially good food (home cooked of course) good wine and gotta have good friends. good friends are people who know you at your worst not your best then you know they are friends and then an eclectic cocktail of balanced exercise a little frivalousness and humour all sprinkled with the security of loved ones and independence What a gorgeous mix !!!!!!!

Laughter keeps me young! Sharing a good laugh with my husband is one of the most wonderful things in my life. Aside from that, I stay young by trying new things, exercise, eating wonderful healthy whole foods and challenging myself on different levels. I love being outside and enjoying nature… whether it’s a thunderstorm or a windy day, I celebrate it all!

And it’s a mind thing. You feel young if you THINK young. So just letting go keeps me youthful!

Sometimes it’s just learning to utilize some new web techie thing. Starting a blog this winter was like that! I had no idea what I was doing, but it’s been fun!

I did post and link back to your blog, so count me in for 2 entries… I’d love to win the bike as I haven’t biked in years and it’s time to learn to ride again!

My niece keeps me young! She’s three and a half, and at the age where bumps and bruises are nothing but tickling — TICKLING — is the best thing in the world. Crawling around on the floor roaring and pretending to be lions or hiding behind a napkin at dinner because a dragon is attacking us… She is what keeps me young. Laughing and playing are a full time job for her, and for me too, when we’re together (which, unfortunately isn’t too often since I’m in Texas and she’s in Europe!).

meditation and music ( not at the same time. ha) keeps me young. They both keep me interested and excited about life. Keep your curiosity and life stays fun. Also biking makes me feel young too ( I’m not just saying that for the contest). It’s my favorite exercise but it doesn’t feel like exercise. The freedom of going just to go, and to feel the wind and the speed. fun fun.

What keeps me young is telling stupid jokes to my students and children and laughing at them. I also watch a lot of cartoons and Disney show and listen to gangsta rap. I devour flaming hot cheetos and nachos with tons of jalapeno pappers. Lastly, I stay young by wearing my pants down to my kneed so that my cool boxers show as I walk around and say wazuuuuuup to every one.

On a serious note, I stay young because I don’t sweat the small stuff.
