29JanStanding on Your Own Two Feet

As a young twenty something with a few major life experiences already under my belt, I think it’s safe to say I’ve come to experience moments where I was faced with two options.  Either I a) become independent and stand on my own two feet or b) find another way to skip assuming responsibility for myself.  Option B is easy.  You can quit something that requires real effort, avoid confrontation and difficult situations, or hide.  Option A, on the other hand, requires a whole lot of courage and a whole lot of will.

25JanBite the Bullet: Pushing Through Fear to Get Your Perfect Shot

Fear has this (not so) funny way of undermining us and our abilities.  You can secretly marvel the self-employed success story, knowing full and well that you have the skills to become one too– then slink back to your desk job.  As you read the rest of this post, I want you to put your mind at ease for a moment and just entertain the thoughts of limitless possibilities that would flourish if you ever dared to step in that direction.  It all starts with a thought and the mind frame that thought is encased within.

Have you ever found yourself at the very center of unwanted attention?  You know - the very center as in a perfect bull’s eye with everyone’s hurtful words as darts using you as target practice?  Whether they have great aim and are spot on or they are just letting ‘em fly, the wounds hurt all around.

Now, if you’re a celebrity, They say no publicity is “bad” publicity.  But if you’re an everyday (but still fabulous) girl, the last thing you need at the office are a group ‘knowing eyes’ glancing away with the soundtrack of hushed whispers and snickers.  You don’t need your attendance at school commemorated with the uncomfortable air that comes with being gossiped about.  I won’t pretend that this is a simple situation because truth be told, anything that has to do with being criticized and having your feelings hurt is, by nature, a difficult thing to deal with.  But I CAN suggest a couple of things you can bear in mind that can both strengthen you and grant you the graces you need to keep your chin up as they cast those stones.

19JanStress Management for the Woman Who Wants It All

business-woman-escape1.jpg

I am writing this to the woman who wants it all.  I am all about wanting it all.  I dream big, I aim (really) high, I think whoever thinks I have delusions of grandeur apparently doesn’t know me well enough, and I sip from a glass that’s half-full.

It’s wonderful, really.

What ISN’T wonderful is the insane amount of stress that can come from having to multi-task and drudge through a way too busy day.  Stress is like quicksand right at the very center of your dreams.  You add to, tweak, or create new dreams and goals and while you are trying to move forward with all of your plans, the quicksand sucks you and your strength away as you try to forge on!  The less strength you have, the less you are able to manage.   Regardless of what success is for you, effort and energy is required to make the engine of your dreamboat purr.  If you want to be  super-mom, a straight-A student, a star at work, handy-sans-the-man,  or (eek) everything at once–

You’re going to need a system.

14JanWhen Friends Need To Borrow Money

You know what they say.  Don’t lend money to family or friends.

I know what you’re thinking.  Obviously, “they” don’t have any friends.

Well, taking a look back to a recent experience I had, being the sweetest soul known to man will not guarantee you any degree of financial security.  You don’t need to be a cutthroat “Kill Bill” type but you do need to be smart about the moves you make with your money.  Ultimately, you want to still be friends (or family) with the person that you’re helping long after the loan.  Suffering through resentment because you can’t get your money back will poison your friendship.  In fact, unfortunately, things can get pretty ugly - depending on who you’re dealing with + your way of dealing with things.  So here are a couple of tips that you really should take heed to in money matters and BFFs.. BFs.. and the rest of them.
